BUTCH WARE

FOR GOVERNOR

Digital Director → Deputy Campaign Manager & Interim Communications Lead

A first-time gubernatorial candidate needed digital infrastructure that could operate on part with established political institutions on a fraction of their budget.

The Challenge

Serious Campaign with Limited Resources

RevEyes Studio was engaged to design & implement a modular, high-performance system supporting fundraising, communications, compliance & coordination in a live campaign environment.

  • a limited campaign budget & small team

  • fragmented, disconnected legacy tools

  • high fundraising-platform fees cutting into net revenue

  • strict regulatory compliance requirements (California FPPC)

  • no system for internal coordination at scale

The Approach

In-House Ecosystem

(1) Compliance built into the pipeline

Standard web platforms optimize for speed, not disclosure law. RevEyes engineered a custom Node.js middleware layer to capture donor employer & occupation data at the point of submission, keeping every transaction audit-ready under FPPC rules without slowing the donation flow.

(2) Search treated as infrastructure

Content was structured as reference-grade, machine-readable data, built to be a primary source across both search engines & AI-generated answers, reducing reliance on social platforms for narrative control.

✅ Ranked #2 for "Butch Ware" and #5 for "Green Party California governor", outperforming long-standing institutional & party-owned domains

✅ Cited directly by Perplexity AI, ChatGPT & Claude when answering questions about the candidate's platform

(3) A donation flow rebuilt for clarity

A confusing five-tier pricing menu was collapsed into a single strategic anchor with an open input, reducing decision fatigue & raising intent. The campaign also migrated off a high-fee fundraising platform onto zero-fee infrastructure.

2.7x higher conversion than the campaign’s email fundraising

100% of contribution value reached the campaign, no platform fees

(4) Operations that held under real world constraints

A zero-trust access model coordinated hundreds of stakeholders (executive, volunteer, public) without fragmenting into scattered chat threads, replacing several overlapping SaaS tools with one searchable system.

When the campaign lost its communications lead mid-cycle, RevEyes stepped in as interim lead, sustaining 60%+ open rates until permanent leadership was in place.

Why This Matters

Independent organizations can’t always outspend or outstaff established institutions. But they can build systems that make every contribution, decision & interaction work harder, turning limited resources into operational leverage.

Design prioritized recognizability & momentum.

As the campaign grew & new content emerged, the visual system was continuously refined to establish consistency, adapt graphic language, and balance clarity, urgency & approachability.

This feature aggregated “Third-Party Validation” (interviews, news segments) into a single, high-momentum visual feed, proving the candidate as a serious contender.
